Banksy - Explainer Video and Storyboard
Project type
Storyboard and Explainer Video
Date
August 2025
Location
Melbourne
This is a project in which I was tasked with making a storyboard for any book of my choosing found in the Australian College of the Arts Library. I then subsequently was required to fully animate the storyboard and make it come to life with motion design in Adobe After Effects. The video needed to be engaging whilst also promoting and encouraging individuals to visit and use the on campus library. The book I chose to animate was 'Banksy in New York' as Banksy is a favourite artist of mine and I felt that graffiti would work really well with motion design.
I used the artwork in the book to inspire each of my scenes and allow me to create an overall storyline. I then built all of my assets in Adobe Illustrator and turned this into a industry standard storyboard. Each frame of the storyboard details what animation needs to be completed in Adobe After Effects as well as sound effects in order to actually bring the storyboard to life. It also contains a complete style frame to allow the motion designer to accurately see what a scene will look like in full detail.
I built all of my assets using both Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop and then imported them into After Effects and followed the information in my storyboard to create the video. I also added appropriate sound effects as outlined in the storyboard and created transitions between scenes for a smoother viewing. This is the most enjoyable assignment I have ever completed and something I am very proud of as someone who is relatively new to after effects.
